Preparing Children for Life in Modern Britain
Following the Government’s definition of British Values outlined in the 2011 Prevent Strategy, the DfE has reinforced the need “to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.”
At Cudham CE Primary School we take very seriously our responsibility to prepare children for life in modern Britain. We ensure that these fundamental British Values are introduced, discussed and lived out through the Christian ethos and work of the school. All curriculum areas provide a vehicle for furthering understanding of these concepts and, in particular, our R.E. lessons provide excellent opportunities to deepen and develop understanding of different faiths and beliefs.
The school also makes every effort to ensure the children have exposure to a wide range of experiences beyond their local community, for example, through shared sporting events, a range of school visits and the use of outdoor education centres.
Please see the attached table which outlines in more detail some of the ways we help prepare pupils for life in modern Britain.
