Cudham Church of England Primary School

Computing

At Cudham, Computing is taught as a core subject throughout the school, following the National Curriculum through the Teach Computing scheme. In KS1, students explore topics such as Computing and System Networks (Technology Around Us), Creating Media (Digital Painting and Digital Writing), Programming (Moving a Robot and Programming Animation), and Data and information (Grouping Data).

In Years 3 and 4, the focus expands to include Computing Systems and Networks (Connecting Computers), Creating Media (Stop-frame Animation and Desktop Publishing), Programming (Sequencing Sounds and Events/Actions in Programs), and Data and Information (Branching Databases).

For Years 5 and 6, students delve into more advanced concepts, such as Computing Systems and Networks (Systems and Searching), Creating Media (Video Production and Introduction to Vector Graphics), Programming (Selection in Physical Computing), and Data and Information (Flat-file Databases).

In addition to dedicated Computing lessons, students have the opportunity to apply these skills across the curriculum, using tools like iPads and Chromebooks to support learning in subjects such as maths, science, geography, and history.

Our aim is to ensure that by the time they leave Cudham, our students are well-equipped with the knowledge, skills, confidence, and digital literacy they need to succeed safely and responsibly in today’s technology-driven world.
